Welcome to Hylton Castle Primary School

SMSC

PSMSC (Personal, Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural education)

At Hylton Castle Primary School we aim to give pupils the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead confident, healthy, independent lives and become active, responsible citizens. Pupils are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities and experiences in school and in the wider community through class and school councils, fundraising events, supporting nominated charities and involvement in community activities. In so doing they learn to recognize their own worth, work well with others and become increasingly responsible for their own learning. They reflect upon their experiences and they are learning to understand how they develop personally, morally, culturally and socially. The children also learn about their responsibilities, rights and duties as individuals and members of a community. They learn to understand and respect our common humanity, diversity and differences, so they can go on to form the effective, fulfilling relationships that are essential part of life and learning.

PSHME and Citizenship is taught through a range of planned and unplanned opportunities, including the National Curriculum content, topics, assemblies, classroom activities including ‘Jigsaw’ lessons, timetabled ‘Circle Time’ sessions,  outdoor educational visits, visiting speakers’ sessions and extra-curricular activities.
